Can you put a 58mm Thread Camera lens on a 58mm Thread Video Camera?
I have a Canon Rebel and have a few lenses that fit it. If I bought a Canon GL2, would these lenses be compatible with it? Thanks in advance 
From my understanding, not quite.
Remember that your camera lens is designed to project an image onto a 35mm strip of film (or a sensor).
What you proposed, however, would be directly mounting that lens onto your GL2. Unfortunately in this case there is nothing to project the image on to. You would be projecting it on to another lens, which would try to focus it on its own (but couldn't "see" the image anyway, though, because it hasn't been projected on to something).
Simply put, try looking through one of your SLR's lenses. See anything interesting? Chances are no, although an image (that you can't see) is being projected onto your eye much like a projector puts an image on a movie screen!
So to use your regular lenses with the GL2, you would need some sort of focusing screen to accomplish this. That way you could put your lens in front of the focusing screen, have it project the image on to that focusing screen, then have your GL2's main lens focus the image produced on the focusing screen onto your camera's sensor.
You'd have to do some special modifications to do this--check out Wikipedia's article on depth-of-field adapters.
But let's say you built or bought one (for hundreds of dollars 
). There's a catch: the image is upside down. You'd flip it in post.
So, in short, no, you can't piggyback two lenses on top of each other without a way for them to focus each other's images right.
58mm filters and adapters, however, will work! Let's say you had a 58mm polarizer or something, you could use that for your stuff. If you had a 58mm wide angle adapter or a 58mm telephoto lens, this would work too. So you can use those.
