I have a Nikon D40 camera and it wont focus anymore.?
Ok My camera used to when you were taking pictures you could move your lens to your desired close up or back up then you could push down the button to take the pic and the camera would focus the picture and take wonderful pictures. Now it wont even take anything.. wont even take! A light will come on up front and when you push the button to take the picture.....nothing! I got this camera in sept..Anyone help me?
The light you see is the focus assist beam. It comes on when it can't find a focus.
Put the lens into Manual Focus mode & turn the front focusing ring and zoom the lens. Does either one feel like it's stuck, popping, or grinding? If so, you probably dropped it or hit the lens on something & need to buy a new lens. Also test to see if it will fire in manual focus mode (a functioning camera will fire with the lens cap on if it's in MF)
Take it to a shop where they can try another lens on your camera. If it works, you just need a new lens. If it doesn't, you'll have to fix the camera. If it's broke due to impact, expect to pay around $250 to fix it.
If both the lens and body are broken, you can probably buy a D3000 for a little less.
Of course if it's due to a normal body defect, then the repair will be free. Don't tell them it wasn't dropped if it was - Nikon will know.
Update: Kelzonee, the reason your view is blurry is because you didn't bother to read the instruction manual about the eyepiece diopter. Don't blame the camera for the user's limitation.
