Canon EOS 40D lens help!!! What lens should I buy that can help me with landscape and macro photography???
I am about to buy my first DSLR and I am new to the whole DSLR system. I have owned a Canon SD630 for about 2 years and I am about to buy a Canon EOS 40D. As i have discovered, there are a zillion lens for DSLR cameras. I am looking into doing macro photography (flowers, insects, etc) and also landscape photography (sunrise and sunset, beaches, fields, etc)...I am on a limited budget and I do not want to buy more than 1 lens...Please suggest a lens that can handle all my needs comfortably. Also, give me some advice on which filters to get for landscape photography...Thanks
Finally, is a DSLR really worth it or should I go for the Finepix S100FS? Please I will appreciate all your answers. Thanks...
First, a DSLR is really worth it if you can afford it. The 40d is a very nice DSLR, and I don't think you'll go wrong by purchasing it. It's fast and produces high quality images. It and the Finepix S100FS aren't in the same league.
As far as a good lens for landscape, I'd look at the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di or the Canon EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM. They're both good lenses for landscape photography, and it really depends on your budget as to which one to buy. There's about a $100.00 difference between the Canon and the Tamron.
Lastly, maybe you should try searching some of the online digital photography forums to see what others have to say about the Canon 40d and the various lenses for it. There's currrently a decent discussion going on about this over at http://www.fotozumi.com and you should check out the reviews of the 40d over http://www.dpreview.com. I always look at the dpreview.com reviews before I buy a camera.
I hope this helps! Enjoy that new camera when you get it, whichever model it may be!
