What size of Lens hood does the 18-55mm require? Does any size of hood fit the 18-55mm Lens?

You can also buy a cheap, generic 52mm lens hood but if it extends too much or too little you might see adverse effects. Best to experiment in a camera store.

As for how long a lens can be... as long as you like. You can attach the camera to a telescope. But after a certain point you don't mount the camera on a tripod anymore - you mount the lens on a tripod and the K-x just dangles in space. This is already the case with the 60-250mm.
