Does an IR filter allow your camera to see Infrared? Or does it filter out infrared?
Ok so i dont really know much about this kind of stuff, and i was just wondering if the IR filtering lens allows your camera to see infrared or blocks out infrared, thanks!
Neither
There is an IR cut off filter that sits in front of your cameras sensor the blocks most of the IR light that comes through your cameras lens.
There is an other IR filter, which ONLY lets IR light through, so NO visible light gets through the lens (this makes is extremely difficult to compose your images)
So, IF you remove the IR cut off filter (sometimes called a hot mirror) from your sensor, use your camera on a tripod so you can compose your images before you place the 87 IR filter on you lens, you could get some good IR shots. The problem. How do you remove the hot mirror? Is it safe for someone to do by themselves?
