Are you shopping for a new digital camera? You're probably very confused by now by the dizzying array of cameras for sale and all of the features that are offered. You may not even know what some of the terms mean. That's ok. Here are some features to take into account while you are shopping, so that you choose the right camera for your needs.
There are different brands at different price points. That's not the important thing. The critical factor to consider is how the camera is going to be used. If you know how you are likely to use a camera, you can then match cameras to this need and determine which would be best for you based on its features.
The next thing you need to consider is whether you will want a traditional viewfinder or what is called an EVF. It's really a matter of your own personal preference. You can get regular optical cameras or digital cameras that have regular or traditional viewfinders.
You may even decide that you want a camera that has done away with the optical viewfinder altogether in favor of an electronic one.
What type of screen would be best for you? Many digital cameras have an LCD screen that takes the image that the camera is focused on (or else the picture recently taken) and displays it on this screen in great detail.
Resolution is another big issue. You need to determine what resolution you are going to need. The higher the resolution, the clearer and more successful your pictures are likely to be.
The measure used for this is 'megapixel'. You've probably seen cameras advertised as having a certain number of megapixels. Bear in mind that the average camera has resolution of between 3-7 megapixels, though you can find models with less and models with more. Higher megapixels mean better photo quality. Better photo quality means that you can enlarge your pictures without them becoming fuzzy or grainy. Don't bother with any camera less than three megapixels; the camera will take pictures of very poor quality.

Especially if you take a lot of pictures, or if you are a professional photographer, it's very important to take these factors into account.
