Will my Old 52mm Lens be compatible with the EOS Canon Rebel XSi?
I'm looking to buy the new Canon Rebel(EOS XSi) and today i picked up an Auto Zoom "macro" lens for $40 at the local pawn shop. The magnification is 1:40-5.6 and the f=70-210mm. It also has a 25∅ number, that I'm not too sure what it is referring to. It has the model number 8912346 as well as the capital letters MC in bright red. All this info is found on the front of the lens. It was also made in Japan. Is this a Minolta lens? Will it work on the camera i said i am looking into? I think it has a bayonet attachment, but I'm not sure. It does if a bayonet attachment means that it has a little plastic piece that slides backwards. Also, the cap to cover the back screws in clockwise.
HELP!
First we have to establish how old your lens is.
If it was made before 1988, and is an FD lens, no. From your description, you may have one of the old AE-1 cameras and FD lenses. While there are adapters that can adapt the old FD lenses to the new EOS cameras, they cannot focus out to infinity and cannot use the advanced EOS metering system.
When Canon redesigned its cameras and lenses and introduced the EOS system, all the older Canon cameras and lenses became obsolete
This is one of the reasons I switched over to Nikon. I was left with two camera bodies and four lenses that became obsolete over night. The newspaper I was working for at the time used Nikon's so I was already used to that system. I sold my Canons and bought a Nikon body and used my employers lenses until I could afford to buy my own.
